We understand not every non-profit can hire an organization to help them in their fundraising journey. Therefore, here are some tips we give to starting nonprofits to succeed raising funds at the beginning of their journey:
1. Apply to Walmart community grants or other local grants: This is a great place to start. As a local non-profit, you can apply to those Walmart stores near you via their website for a max of around $1000 per project. These Walmart local community grants are approved by the local managers, therefore if you can contact or visit local managers to show your work this can be also of help.
2. Request for matching or employee donations to people near you who know your project: Many large organizations have programs where employees can donate a small amount, i.e., up to $1000 on behalf of the organization and the company will donate this money as part of their social responsibility. If you have friends and family working on these, please ask them if they have a similar program and can collaborate with you.
3. Request funds personally whenever possible: If you are starting out as a non-profit, my suggestion is that you search and find local fundraising organizations for CA or NV, or local events where you can meet those willing to collaborate to your cause. Meeting prospective donors in person is much easier than online, and provide more trust. Requesting online donations is more scalable, but at the beginning is much harder as people do not know your organization and the success rate is always lower.
Hope this can help you start your fundraising journey! There are other most complicated grants as the Horizon Grants for Health Organizations or USAID but their are another topic itself.
